The All-in-one Library in Your Hands _CompAsia Malaysia

The library in your hands

Phones are often associated with social media, Netflix, and other unhealthy habits that are addictive in nature. However, it doesn’t always have to be this way. Your phone can also be a tool used to cultivate healthy habits, such as reading. Not a fan of staring at your screen for hours? You could also listen to audiobooks which allows you to passively consume books while performing mundane tasks such as ironing or going for a walk.

The app

When it comes to book related apps, Malaysia is kind of lacking. We do not have access to Amazon Kindle Unlimited or audiobook apps like Storytel. Bookworms would have to pay for individual books to gain access to the latest titles which could be costly in the long run.

There is a hidden gem however, and that app is called Scribd. While it is an American app and payments are made in USD, it is available in Malaysia. Furthermore, the app also gives you access to some of the latest magazines. Scribd is truly the Netflix for bookworms and totally worth the 9.90USD subscription fee.

The settings

Looking at your screen for too long can cause eye strain. The blue light emitted from your device will also cause difficulty in falling asleep. This is a problem if you tend to do a little reading before bed. While most phones these days come with a blue light filter, you can amplify the blue light cutting capability of your device with an app called Twilight. This app is free and allows you to toggle your screen to be easier on your eyes.

The accessories

Don’t you hate it when your phone slips from your hands and falls right onto your face? For optimal reading comfort you’d want a proper phone grip which allows you to hold your device without causing fatigue. The best accessory to hold your phone would be a good ol’ Pop Socket. The accessory is tucked between your fingers to provide you a solid hold on your phone. Also, they are available in a wide variety of cool designs that will likely match your phone.

The earphones

These days earphone jacks on smartphones are becoming rarer. Most phones however, offer bluetooth capabilities, allowing you to tune in to your device’s audio with ease. You don’t need to have expensive ones when it comes to audiobooks. What you do want is some noise isolation for clarity when books are being read to you. For a more affordable choice, we recommend the Anker Soundcore Life P2. You could also check out other offerings from Anker which produces awesome wireless earbuds at a more affordable price range. However, if you’re looking to splurge, you’re going to want to check out the all-new Sony WF-1000XM4. You’ll want to use it for more than just your audiobooks.

Conclusion

It’s a great time to be reading more books. Access to magazines will also keep you up-to-date on the latest trends. Personally, I enjoy the Entrepreneur magazine that is part of the subscription, as it provides plenty of inspiration for side hustles. You can also access tech magazines which showcase the latest offerings straight from Silicon Valley and beyond.
