5 iOS 17 features Malaysians can look forward to _CompAsia Malaysia

There’s just something about iOS updates that refresh the iPhone experience, making it feel like you’ve been handed a new phone overnight. With the recent announcement of iOS 17, iPhone users of the XS series and newer are abuzz with excitement.

Scheduled to be released around mid to late September, here are some of the features that will surely excite the everyday Malaysian iPhone user.

Dear diary…

If you’re a fan of self-help books, you’ll be aware of the benefits that come with journaling. As a device that is constantly glued to your palm, it makes sense to have a journal on your smartphone. Apple’s unique Journal app will not only allow you to key in entries, it will make suggestions on what and when to post.

By learning about where you are, what you’re listening to and who you’re with, the app then nudges you and guides you on how you can crystallise these special moments.

Stay in touch

Apple has often been associated with the AirDrop feature and regardless of how hard Android tries, it will not have that seamless familiarity that AirDrop has. iOS 17 will see an improved AirDrop where all you have to do is bring two iPhones within close proximity to activate AirDrop. That means less swiping and more sharing.

Apple will also be introducing a new feature called NameDrop. NameDrop allows you to share contact details by bringing two iPhones close to each other. Your contact details can also be customised to make it extra special. Goodbye namecards.

Safety in numbers

You know how friends usually go “don’t forget to message me when you get home ya?”; Apple has come up with a way to ensure that everyone gets home safely. The Check In feature notifies friends and family when you arrive at your destination.

If for whatever reason your progress stops during your journey, your phone will check in on you. If no response is made, helpful information such as your location, battery level and mobile service status will be shared with your loved ones.

Remember this face

If you enjoyed the customisation options introduced in iOS 16, you’ll love the Contact Posters in iOS 17. Now you can create your own poster-like image that is seen by whoever you call. This is perfect for people who can remember faces but can’t remember names.

Stand by me

Remember digital photo frames? Apple’s new Standby Mode is an awesome reason to toss digital photo frames. By turning your phone on its side while charging, you can turn your iPhone into a bedside clock that displays the time, date, photos, media and more.
